Early Child Development
Foothill Family Service offers a spectrum of services to support parents and their children ages 0-5 during their critical development stages:
Early Head Start
A home-based program offered to eligible families with infants and toddlers ages 0-3 living with the zip codes 91731 (El Monte), 91732 (El Monte), 91733 (South El Monte), 91734 (El Monte), and 91746 (La Puente). Early Head Start Home Visitors certified in the Parents As Teachers (PAT) Evidence-Based Curriculum provide early child development education, parent support, and social services to families during home visits. Families in the program also create networks of support with one another, receive information to enhance their family's goals and parenting skills, and participate in the decisions of the program at group meetings together with their children offered twice per month.
School Readiness Program
The School Readiness program focus on preparing children for school so that every child regardless of race and/or socioeconomic status is ready for school. The program services families in the following zip codes: 91702, 91704, 91010, 91722, 91706 and 91740 who have children age of 0-5. We also provide service to pregnant women.
All school readiness services are free and include the following:
- Monthly parent literacy and educational workshops child care provided
- Personalized home visits focusing on parent child activities using the Parents as Teachers Curriculum
- Case management
- Functional vision and hearing screening for your child
- Developmental screening
- Resource and Referral
- Family Resource Center at Magnolia Elementary
- Lending Library at Magnolia Elementary Family Resource Center
Research tells us that children's brains grow the fastest during the first five years of life, so it's important to love, nurture, read to and play with them to help them get the best possible start in school and in life.
