Testimonials
The children who received services through
ESTEEM School-Based Counseling were referred by their teachers because
of symptoms of emotional, behavioral or mental health problems that
they exhibited in the classroom or on the playground.
78% of teachers said that the
behavior of children who were referred for counseling had improved
after counseling.
Regarding
changes
in
the
children
receiving
counseling,
teachers’
comments
include:
My
student has made tremendous progress this year behavior-wise and
academically as well. I feel that he’s learning to trust
adults more also.
This
program, in my opinion, directly improved her completion of homework.
She seemed calmer, happier and more focused than before receiving
services.
In
general, students became calmer, less discipline issues.
Students
were better-behaved and were able to function in the classroom.
I
appreciate that Lynn (Foothill Family counselor) was instrumental in
getting the parent to the parent conference. This parent was
hard to get to attend any meeting. Once we had the conference
with
Lynn
this child immediately started showing growth in academics, opening
up, self-esteem and general happiness.
Teachers
had
the
following
to
say
about
how
ESTEEM
impacted
the
school
environment:
The
impact is huge! I wish they (the counselors/case managers) were able
to see more kids without the Medi-Cal restriction.
“The
State” doesn’t realize that we are raising the bar for numerous
students who can’t even focus on the simplest things academically.
Your program affects behavior, provides a confidant for the kids to
trust, gives kids hope, and raises their esteem and thereby affects
their academics.
The
impact has been immense. Working with these at-risk children
early will help to remediate any problems further down the road.
