Evidence-Based Practices at Flourish

At Flourish, we prioritize the importance of tangible results.

Our therapists are extensively trained in a diverse range of therapy models rooted in the principles of Evidence-Based Practices (EBPs).

What is an EBP, you might wonder? Simply put, it’s a practice with a proven track record, supported by robust, high-quality research demonstrating its efficacy. EBPs often entail a systematic, step-by-step approach to address and improve specific symptoms, behaviors, or diagnoses. As part of the process, you might receive tailored assignments or resources to further enhance your progress towards well-being.

Parent-Child Interaction Therapy

Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) is delivered in playroom settings where the therapist can observe behaviors through a one-way mirror. By using a wireless earphone, the therapist can provide verbal direction and support to the parent.

• Children ages 2-7 and their parents or caregivers
• Decrease unwanted behaviors, increase positive parenting strategies, improve quality of the parent-child relationship
• 12-20 weekly hour-long sessions, based on needs of child and family

Family Therapy

Family therapy is a powerful resource for nurturing improved communication, mutual support, and conflict resolution among family members.

The effectiveness of family therapy interventions extends to addressing various challenges, such as relationship distress, psychosexual issues, intimate partner violence, anxiety disorders, mood disorders, alcohol problems, schizophrenia, and adaptation to chronic physical illnesses. It serves as a cornerstone for fortifying communication within the family unit.

Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

With Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), therapists may meet with the child/adolescent and parents separately, or they may meet with the child/adolescent and parents jointly, depending on phase of treatment. When feasible, the final set of sessions are often joint as part of the treatment plan.

• Children and adolescents
• Symptoms associated with trauma exposure, including symptoms of PTSD
• 12-16 weekly 45-90 minute sessions, depending on complexity of need (may be as few as 8 sessions or as many as 25)

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) is a branch of Cognitive Therapy that has successfully treated depression and anxiety and received clinical and research-based support.

MBCT “was developed as a targeted approach for people who have a history of depression and are therefore vulnerable to future episodes” (Crane, 2009, p. 3). Practicing mindfulness helps clients bring body sensations, emotions, and thoughts to their attention and respond better to early indicators of a relapse.
