PASADENA, CA – The S. Mark Taper Foundation awarded Foothill Family a $75,000 grant, providing significant support for Foothill Family’s vital work in supporting the region’s most underserved families with mental health and social services focused on preventive care and early intervention. Since 2005, Foothill Family has been awarded a total of $300,000 in grant funding from the S. Mark Taper Foundation.

“Deemed an essential business during the current global pandemic, the Foothill Family team has been on the front lines as the need – and demand – for mental health services drastically increased,” said Steve Allen, Foothill Family Chief Executive Officer. “We’re most grateful to receive a grant from this generous foundation which helps provide our most vulnerable families with critical mental health and childcare services.”

With sites in Covina, Duarte, El Monte, Pasadena, Pomona, and West Covina, Foothill Family’s programs positively impact communities in the San Gabriel and Pomona Valleys, Glendale, and Burbank. This grant from the S. Mark Taper Foundation will help provide mental health and school-based counseling for children, child abuse prevention and treatment, domestic violence prevention and treatment, early childhood development programs, services for pregnant teens and their babies, family counseling, and youth development.

The S. Mark Taper Foundation, founded in 1989, is a private family foundation dedicated to enhancing the quality of people’s lives by supporting nonprofit organizations and their work in our communities. The Foundation is committed to grantmaking that aligns with the values of diversity, equity and inclusion. In order to overcome the systemic disenfranchisement of people on the basis of race, gender identity, sexual orientation and disability, the Foundation joins their philanthropic partners in a continuing examination of privilege and a commitment to advancing inclusion and opportunities for all people of Southern California.

Now its 95th year of service, Foothill Family was founded in 1926 and provides a range of community-based mental health and social services to underserved populations in Southern California. Its mission, empowering children and families to achieve success in relationships, school, and work through community-based services that advance growth and development, has helped Foothill Family earn a reputation for providing high quality services.  Last year, more than 21,000 children and their families benefited from Foothill Family’s life-changing programs.
