MOMS CLUB OF MONROVIA SUPPORTS FOOTHILL FAMILY SERVICE

Mar 29, 2013

PASADENA, Calif. Several members of the MOMS Club of Monrovia visited Foothill Family Service’s Hudson Family Center in Pasadena on Friday, March 29, 2013 to donate diapers and supplies collected by the club’s volunteer members during a recent diaper drive, which supports the club’s mission of Moms Offering Moms Support.

While dropping off the supplies, which will go directly to Foothill’s clients in need, the MOMS Club members received a tour of the Hudson Family Center, including several of the facility’s therapy rooms where Foothill’s clients receive counseling and therapy services.

MOMS Club of Monrovia’s support for Foothill Family Service began last fall, when MOMS Club members began searching for an organization that specifically supported mothers and families in their service area of Monrovia, Duarte, Bradbury and El Monte. Administrative Vice President Sara McKey found out that Foothill Family’s service area includes not only the San Gabriel and Pomona Valleys, Glendale and Burbank, but more importantly, the exact communities of Duarte and El Monte that MOMS Club members were aiming to support. Being able to helping moms in their own community made partnering with Foothill a perfect fit, according to MOMS Club Service Committee Chair Ani Janbazian.

The MOMS Club of Monrovia’s members signed up as donors for Foothill’s 2012 Adopt-A-Family Program and agreed to take on a large size family of seven. By pooling their resources, MOMS Club members provided all the items on the family’s “wish list,” delivering an impressive load of gifts from warm clothing to household supplies, a crib, bedding, toys and more, which were then delivered by Foothill’s case managers to the Duarte-based family in time for the holidays.

Months later, Foothill Family’s Development Associate, Lisa Vandergriff, was thrilled to receive an out-of-the-blue phone call from Janbazian, stating that the club had once again chosen to support Foothill, this time through a diaper drive. Janbazian asked if they could have a quick tour when dropping off the diapers, and Foothill’s Associate Director of Development, Susan Dutra, was more than happy to show members around the Hudson Family Center in Pasadena, answering questions about Foothill’s programs along the way. The children who accompanied the MOMS Club members gravitated to the toys in each of the therapy rooms, as Dutra explained how the toys are used during a counseling session to help children communicate the issues they may be experiencing at home or in school.

Foothill Family Service builds brighter futures – empowering children and families in our community to overcome challenges and achieve success in relationships, school and work. Last year, approximately 21,000 clients benefited from Foothill Family Service’s life-changing services.
